She has a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Master of Forensic Sciences degree. Since July, 2007, she has maintained certification as a Certified Bloodstain Pattern Analyst through the International Association for Identification.

In this interview, Tina shares some thoughts about her new book, Bailey McKenzie, book 1 in her new Crime Scene Specialist Series.

FF: What inspired you to write this book?
My experience in forensics and teaching, as well as family member’s experience in law enforcement, lead me to believe that there is interest and need for a Christian crime scene specialist book. We know what a salacious view looks like with TV shows. But what about a book, written for Christians, by Christians?

FF: What is your main goal or hopeful outcome with this book?
As I alluded to in the previous question, I think the last few decades of media have shown that the public holds an interest in crime scene investigation. I hope to use that vehicle to spread Christian themes and publish a book that Christian parents and teachers can safely hand off to their kids.

FF: Were the characters inspired by real persons?
There is nothing new under the sun. While Bailey is a compilation of real experiences and stories, she took on her own role and personality as I wrote the book.

FF: What professional background do you have that allows you to write about this subject?
I am in the Administration of Justice Department at Grossmont College in El Cajon, California where I teach basic and advanced forensic technology and forensic photography courses, as well as California State-certified forensic technology and bloodstain pattern analysis (BPA) courses. I am a private BPA practitioner and have testified as a BPA expert witness in San Diego, Riverside, and Los Angeles County Superior Court.

FF: What already-published books are most like your book?
The Nancy Drew Series! Think scientifically-accurate Nancy Drew.

After department layoffs and an increase in crime, Crime Scene Specialist and Bloodstain Pattern Analyst Renee’ McKenzie develops her own crime scene team of junior interns, including her own daughter, Crime Scene Specialist and Forensic Photographer Bailey McKenzie; Firearms Examiner Jake Wayne (Bailey’s nemesis since childhood); Fingerprint Examiner Ernesto Rodriguez; DNA Analyst Lindsey Smith; and Trace Evidence and Digital Forensics Analyst Dorian Dong. The team arrives to their biggest crime scene yet, a triple homicide involving drug trafficking. Bailey’s father, DEA Agent Liam McKenzie, is a supportive figure to the team and is brought in to help with the investigation as the “players” of this case appear to be connected to something bigger than a local narcotics investigation.
