What are the spiritual ideas or themes in Knox?

This entire series is based on the hymn “Be Thou My Vision.” I chose this hymn for the family saga because all the heroes and heroines are struggling with focus after the death of the family patriarch.

In this first book, the heroine struggles with fear, and wondering if God is close after a traumatic event. The hero is struggling with God’s plan for his life and feeling like he’s missed it. The theme of the book is really how does it change our lives when God is Lord of our Heart.

What characters or plot elements in this book come from real life? (Either from personal experience or from your research.)

I always love to pull from personal experiences when I write a story. Of course, I’ve been to Montana, numerous times, and have even spent time on a ranch. And I also pulled from my love of rodeos and country music.

But I think the biggest element was pulling from the traumatic event of being attacked in Russia. God saved us, but for years afterwards I struggled with PTSD and fear, like Kelsey, my main character. My journey to peace and freedom is not unlike hers, and it was healing for me to see my path to healing through Kelsey’s eyes.
