Kate Angelo is an author, minister, and public speaker from Southwest Missouri who works alongside her husband strengthening and encouraging marriages and families through their ministry. As the mother of five mostly grown children, she is fluent in both sarcasm and eye rolls—subjects she never intentionally taught while homeschooling. With her chihuahua taking up half of her desk space, she writes suspenseful stories of imperfect people who encounter hope and healing through Jesus. I’m so excited to introduce you all to another debut Sunrise Publishing author!
First, a little about Sunrise Publishing. It’s long been my (Susie May’s) dream to help aspiring inspirational authors get published and build solid careers. I believe that inspirational books should be the very best novels written as we are inspiring not only the heart but the soul with our stories. (It’s probably the former missionary gal in me!). I did this first by starting a school for Novelists—Novel.Academy. And yes, we train amazing authors. But not all of them feel equipped to start an indie career—and we know that traditional publishing houses have a limited number of author positions. Also, as a career author, I know that I have many more unexplored stories than I can write in worlds my readers love.
Therefore, I thought—what if I found established authors like me, who had an extensive backlist, and paired them with almost-ready aspiring authors who just needed a bit more mentoring to bring them up to that publishable bar? I just needed a partner who shared my vision….enter the amazing and brilliant Lindsay Harrel who agreed with the vision and jumped in to join me. Along with our fantastic marketing director, Rel Mollet, we have partnered with now eight lead authors, who, along with over 20 aspiring authors are creating books that readers will love.
Our first series, the Return to Deep Haven Collection launched in 2021, and exceeded our expectations. We’re so thrilled to launch our next collection—a reboot of Lynette Eason’s Elite Guardians Series! Launch author Kate Angelo’s book, Driving Force, hit the shelves March 22nd.

Driving Force is the first thrilling romantic suspense in Sunrise Publishing’s Elite Guardians Collection. Share a little about the story.
Kate Angelo: Driving Force is a fast-paced romantic suspense with bodyguard Christina Sherman and veteran Grey Parker relying on each other to protect Boss, Grey’s retired military working dog, while searching for the evil scientist who created a chemical weapon that left Grey sidelined in a wheelchair.
The Collection is a spin-off from Lynette’s popular Elite Guardians Series. How are the stories connected?
Kate Angelo: Driving Force picks up with Christina Sherman, a retired Army sniper, working as a bodyguard with the Elite Guardians in the fourth Elite Guardian book, Chasing Secrets. Fans of the series will be delighted to see characters from the original series in Driving Force.
Former Special Forces Air Commando Grey Parker is struck immediately by Elite Guardian bodyguard Christina Sherman’s expertise and diligence. What else about Christina appeals to Grey?
Kate Angelo: Grey sees Christina as an enigma and knows there is something more behind her tough exterior—something that draws him in and says he can trust her even when he can’t trust himself. And if she can steal the heart of Boss, then perhaps his own heart is in danger as well.
What do you hope readers take from this story?
Kate Angelo: Driving Force highlights characters who have painful pasts that still present everyday challenges, and I think each reader will find something that speaks to them right where they are. Themes of forgiveness weave their way through this book, but above all else I hope readers will see that we all face unique challenges and we all struggle, and God is ready to fill each of us with joy and peace as we trust in Him.
What has it been like writing with award-winning, bestselling author Lynette Eason?
Kate Angelo: Lynette is a fabulous writer—truly one of the greats in my opinion. Just when I think she has outdone herself with one heart stopping suspense scene, she comes up with another. She is such an encouragement and she’s supportive of my crazy suspense ideas and complicated plot proposals. Most importantly, Lynette allowed me to explore my own imagination without turning my story or my voice into hers. That’s incredibly difficult to do when you edit or critique a work but Lynette handled it so well, which I think lends itself to what Sunrise Publishing is trying to accomplish—help authors launch their careers, not duplicate the voice and style of their Lead Author.
What is the biggest takeaway, or lesson you learned from this process?
Kate Angelo: Throughout the process I’ve learned so many things about writing, storytelling, and juggling the stress! Above all else, I’ve learned that readers are some of the most amazing people on earth and it’s my privilege to write a story that is compelling and entertaining and leaves the reader satisfied.
What can we look forward to next from the Elite Guardians Collection?
Kate Angelo: Lynette and Sami A. Abrams’ Impending Strike releases in June this year and features Elite Guardian and single mom, Lizzie Tremaine, followed by Defending Honor by Lynette and debut novelist Kelly Underwood in October. Readers will recognize another of Lynette’s Elite Guardians in former Mossad Agent, Laila Rabbinowitz.

What drew you to Sunrise and the idea of letting other authors write in your world of the Elite Guardians?
Lynette Eason: I was honored when Susie reached out to me and asked me if I’d be interested in letting other authors explore the EG world. It was exciting to see what they would come up with.
Was it a challenge to “let go” of these secondary characters?
Lynette Eason: A challenge? Naw… I knew they were in amazing hands. 🙂
Why do you think your readers will love Driving Force?
Lynette Eason: I think readers will love Driving Force because they’re going to connect to the character. Kate has really done a fabulous job making them people to cheer for and fall in love with.
