Jill Kemerer writes contemporary inspirational romance novels with love, humor and faith. She continues her Wyoming Cowboys series with His Wyoming Baby Blessing (Love Inspired): But on the brink of losing his ranch, will he also risk losing the woman he’s beginning to love—or can he cowboy up in time? In this interview, she explains how her faith impacts her fiction, the spiritual themes in the new book, and tells us what drew her to her leading characters…

No spoilers, but what can you tell us about His Wyoming Baby Blessing?

His Wyoming Baby Blessing is about an overextended cattle rancher whose life turns upside down when his recently widowed childhood best friend shows up pregnant on his doorstep. Both Wade and Kit are dealing with major problems. Life certainly hasn’t turned out the way they’d hoped.

As they reconnect with each other on Wade’s ranch, they have to fight their insecurities and trust God’s plan to embrace a new future—one where they’re facing their problems together.

Tell us about your leading lady and leading man. What made you want to write a story about them?

I had this idea of two children who bonded in foster care but whose lives diverged as they grew up. Naturally, they’re perfect for each other but can’t see it.

Wade Croft always knew what he wanted—to own the largest cattle ranch in Wyoming. Due to God’s providence, he’s almost succeeded. But a recent property purchase has left him overextended and in jeopardy of losing it all. Wade defines himself by his success and has only been emotionally close with one woman—Kit McAllistor.

Ever since she was a little girl, Kit’s dreamed of having the perfect family, but her cheating husband died, leaving her pregnant and alone. Worse, the baby has a hole in his heart and might have special needs. She’s moving to Casper to be near a NICU. In the meantime, she stays in one of Wade’s guest cottages on his ranch near Sweet Dreams, Wyoming. She’s not looking for romance, but Wade would be her ideal man if he wasn’t already married to his ranch.

What spiritual themes or ideas play out in His Wyoming Baby Blessing?

Wade and Kit both struggle to accept their worth as God’s beloved children. Kit understands she’ll never have the perfect family, but she doesn’t grasp that it isn’t her fault. She falsely believes she’s never deserved love.

And Wade thinks he can insulate himself from life’s problems by accumulating wealth. He needs to set aside his idol of success to embrace a future that will actually fulfill him—with Kit by his side.

What’s your favorite thing about writing romances as a Christian author?

Easy! I love writing characters whose faith is a core part of their being. They pray, they question God’s plans, they go to church (yes, their minds wander at times during the sermon!) and they have Christian friends to rely on. My characters aren’t perfect, that’s for sure!

The stories I write feature Christians growing in their faith in some way, and my own faith is always challenged and boosted as a result.

How does your faith impact the way you approach writing fiction?

I pray over my story as I write it. I ask God to lead me to the truth readers need to hear. He knows who will pick up my books, and He knows what they spiritually need.

I’m also committed to writing real characters—flawed human beings. They rarely get easy ways out of their messes, and they must surrender to God’s will over their own. I hope readers are encouraged in their faith after reading my books.
