Emily Grey writes Christian romance fiction and has been reading the genre since she was a youth. She finds reading and writing very rewarding. Blessed that her family is so supporting in her endeavor, she has the answer to her prayers in doing what she loves.

In this interview, Emily shares some of her thoughts on her latest novel, Protect and Cherish.

FF: Writing can be a very individualist career. Have you thought about collaborating with another author to write a book?
I haven’t considered a writing partner, although the thought is challenging.

FF: Tell us about your writing schedule. How many hours a day do you write, and why is that your number?
Since the pandemic, I’ve put aside painting and yoga classes. Staying home has its benefits, so I write about four hours each day.

FF: Do you like music or other background sounds when you’re writing, or do you prefer silence?
I love music, but writing and singing along with the music doesn’t work for me. Too distracting.

FF: What did you enjoy most about writing Protect and Cherish?
I was inspired to write Protect and Cherish due to a fall on a concrete sidewalk. I know what it’s like to have discolored skin and a damaged nose for six weeks.

FF: Why do you write the kind of books you do?
I’ve loved reading romantic stories since I was a child.

FF: How did you come up with your title?
I wanted to show the two sides of the hero’s attitude toward life.

FF: Tell us about your hero and heroine. What makes them likeable?
Because they are flawed and grow in character

FF: How much of the book is based in real life?
Experiencing a fall on my face was as real as life can get.

FF: What makes this book special to you?
I came to understand the difficulties people experience in looking “different.”

FF: Are plots based on someone you know or events in your own life?
Other than the heroine’s fall, the rest is my imagination.

FF: What books have most influenced your life?
As a teen I ran out of romance novels so I picked up a family purchase. It was an early edition of How to Make Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie.

FF: What book are you reading now?
Untamed by Nora Roberts

FF: What does your family think of your writing?
They love the fact that I’m happy in my fantasy world and encourage me to continue.

FF: What is your next project?
Two people who loved as teens, are separated, and experience serious obstacles to finally come together.
