WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION DRIVING THE STORY IN A TEXAS-MADE MATCH?
The main characters, Ellie O’Brien and Lawson Williams, were the driving force behind the story. They appeared in my previous works Unlawfully Wedded Bride and The Runaway Bride. I wanted to delve into their histories, give them a happy ending and create a story that would entertain readers who’d been following them.
WHAT ARE SOME EXAMPLES FROM THE STORY WHERE YOU DREW ELEMENTS FROM REAL LIFE?
I always try to draw the spiritual message from lessons I have learned or am learning in my own life. The message here is to let go of the past by forgiving others or even yourself for the mistakes they or you have made. Appreciate where you are in your life now. Move into the future with an expectancy that great things will happen.
IN A TEXAS-MADE MATCH, WHICH CHARACTER SURPRISED YOU MOST?
These characters have been in my mind a long time—even before I wrote my first novel at fifteen so I knew them pretty well and not a lot they did surprised me. I wasn’t expecting the secret my heroine was harboring, though. It was a fight for me to uncover it but once I did it explained a lot about who she was as a person. That’s all I can say without spoiling anything.
HOW DO YOU CHOOSE WHICH STORY TO WRITE?
Sometimes it seems as though the stories choose me. I try to write what comes to me when it comes to me. However, sometimes a lot of it depends on simple thing like the order of a series or what a publisher is looking for.
WHAT PROJECTS ARE YOU WORKING ON NOW?
Right now, I have quite a few projects in the proposal stage and am waiting to here back from publishers. Hopefully, I’ll be able to announce a series about the town where this story takes place and an antebellum single-title soon. We’ll see what God has in store.
