Writing can be such a solitary experience for most authors—but your background includes being a minister, teacher, speaker, and dramatist. How do these other facets play a part when you write books?

We are all multifaceted people with a wide array of skills and experiences. I don’t often consciously think about what skill I am using at a particular moment.

When I write, I think it really helps to have a broad range of experiences to draw upon. But most of all, I want to draw on the Holy Spirit for inspiration. There’s something special about a thought or piece of writing that’s conceived in Heaven.

What do you hope readers come away with after reading The Soldier Who Killed a King?

We are transformed at the foot of the cross. Readers need to find themselves there. We need to find Jesus there. He is there. Waiting… Are you willing to take that journey?

We need to step into the empty tomb. This needs to become part of our experience. The drama of that week 2,000 years ago needs to grip us at our core. That’s when change happens—deep personal change.
