Kayla E. Green, also known as the Unicorn Writer, is a poet and speculative fiction author in eastern North Carolina where she resides with her husband and furbabies. She primarily writes for young adult and middle grade readers. A daydreamer at heart, Kayla loves creating new stories and building new worlds. In this interview, Kayla shares some thoughts on her YA fantasy recent novella, Aivan: The One Truth, was released on July 26, 2022.
FF: What inspired your novella?
A church sermon on Elijah and the prophets of Baal inspired an important scene in my novella. Once that scene was written, I expanded the world. I really felt that the story was placed on my heart by God to tell.
FF: Will readers see parallels to other parts of the Bible when reading Aivan: The One Truth?
Yes! I took much inspiration from Bible stories. I hope readers are able to see Biblical truth woven within the pages of my fantasy story.
FF: What are your future writing plans? Will we see any more works in the world of Aivan?
Writing is such a big part of my life and who I am—there is a lot more to come! I’m currently working on the novel that takes place 16 years after Aivan: The One Truth. I’m also working on a middle grade fantasy duology. I’ll share more book news soon!
FF: Can you share some fun facts about yourself?
I love unicorns, the color pink (I even have pink hair) and Halloween. I also collect sugar skulls.
