‘Whiteout’ Book Review

In this thrilling two-novella collection by Lynette Eason and Dani Pettrey, two sets of characters each face their own snow storm with their own set of challenges and dangers. Pettrey’s story kicks off the book with a slasher story, and then Eason finishes out with a suspenseful mystery, with the characters racing to stop the murder before it happens.

Main Themes

In both stories, the important of having an absolutely trustworthy friend, someone who will watch your back in all circumstances, definitely shines through. When danger lurks around every corner and escape is not an option, trust becomes their most important asset.

In Pettrey’s Buried in Shadows, Cassie has spent the past year being terrorized by a stalker who threatened to kill the man she loved unless she broke up with him. When she goes to a ski resort with a group of friends to celebrate her friend’s upcoming wedding, an avalanche traps them in an abandoned lodge. When friends start dying, Cassie realizes that her stalker is trapped there with them. But can she keep her head long enough to tell her beloved the truth so he can help her find the murderer?

In Lynette Eason’s Snowbound Secrets, Maya is also trapped at a ski resort when an avalanche traps them in. After a few days, it becomes clear that someone is out to get her, but she has no idea who they are or what they want with her. Reunited with a former sweetheart, they have to solve the mystery before the mystery catches up to them.

Faith Elements

Both of these authors are Christians who write Christian characters. Their characters grow in their faith as they learn to trust and heal from their past. God and faith are mentioned in both novellas.

Family Friendly Considerations

Buried in Shadows is a true slasher thriller, with a deranged serial killer, so maybe not the best villain for younger audiences. Overall, these are very clean suspense novels, but not every person enjoys reading about a murderer.

The romance is also clean, with relationships built on trust and overcoming life’s obstacles together. There are no inappropriate scenes in either novella.
