Charlotte’s beloved home is falling into ruin. Before her died, her mother charged her with preserving the place to be her younger brother’s inheritance, but her younger brother has vanished into the northern Canadian wilderness, and Charlotte fears he has joined the rebel forces. As her father’s health fails, Charlotte ventures north alone to find her brother and force him to come back home to prove the rumors are wrong about him.
The Canadian frontier is no place for a lady of high society, no matter how much she has been scorned by her peers. Some of the funniest scenes come from two minor side characters, as good-natured-but-totally-hopeless Ogden repeatedly tries and fails to win the heart of the fiercely independent Mrs. Norris.
Faith Elements
Instead of directly praying, the characters sing hymns when they are worried or afraid, which was a really beautiful and refreshing take on including God in a novel.
Family Friendly Considerations
The Heiress and the Woodsman is a very clean novel, with kissing-only romance. Several times, the characters find themselves in life-threatening situations, although the violence is minimal.
