No.
Just kidding! I can tell you that it’s the continuing adventures of Wynter, who will rise up again to save those she loves—and those she doesn’t even know–in a world deeply impacted by this pandemic. The sequel also contains a new character who has quickly become one of my favorite I’ve ever written.
What are the challenges of writing dystopian fiction as a Christian author?
I’d actually say that it’s probably easier to write about dystopian scenarios as a Christian, just because growing up in the church, the end of the world or the worsening of the world is something that we are regularly taught about.
How does your faith impact how you approach storytelling?
It keeps me interested in redemptive story arcs. It also makes me want to delve deeply into the complexities of humans—past, present, and future. After writing the stories of Eve and Judas Iscariot, I think it’s too easy for us to write people off—especially in our own redemptive history and with the lens of hindsight—as “wrong,” sinful,” or even evil.
Yes, people can be those things. But no one I’ve ever met is that two-dimensional. I remember when one of my kids asked me whether King Solomon was a good guy or a bad guy. I said, “yes.” There’s always more to people, and the story.
What do you hope readers will come away with after reading The Line Between and A Single Light?
Some fun things to ponder (How would I survive a pandemic? What could I not live without in a bug-out shelter?) and some satisfying hours of escape. Because that’s such a big part of what we turn to fiction for: to escape life for a while.
What are your favorite ways for readers to support you?
On a very practical level, by buying my books. Any time you can buy an author’s work you’re helping them to continue writing. I’ve watched too many good authors quit in recent years. Pre-orders are also very important to authors, as they send a message to the publisher.
