Silent Menace | Serial Killer Suspense in a Small Town

Angela Carlisle delivered one of the most mild serial killer novels I’ve ever read, and I thoroughly enjoyed the thrill of the suspense without feeling like I had to double check the locks on my door that night.

Main Themes

Hailey Nieland wants to leave the crimes of her dead husband in the past and focus on the future of her young daughter. But some people in the town are slow to forget what happened and strange things are happening to her at work. Someone clearly wants her gone, but Hailey can’t figure out if the escalating incidents are related to her late husband’s criminal activity or are the result of something else. All she knows is this — her life hangs in the balance and she desperately needs answers.

Some of the main themes in this novel are healing from the past/PTSD, realizing that your past mistakes don’t have to control your future decisions, the importance of giving people a second chance, and having the courage to accept that second chance when it is graciously offered.

Faith Elements

Characters go to church and pray. Faith is seen as a strength and the source of strength for many characters.

Family Friendly Considerations

There is one gruesome scene, but other than that, it was a remarkably clean novel. Characters are shot at, deal with corporate fraud, and there is a serial killer, but comparatively, a very mild one.
