Scent of Hope | Romantic Suspense In Alaska

Scent of Hope is Susan May Warren’s second book in her Call of the Wild series. Her third and final book in this trilogy is set to be released in November of 2026 and will conclude the Alaskan hunt for justice.

Main Themes

The biggest theme in this novel is trust and giving people second chances. Harley and Jericho were childhood sweethearts, but some painful misunderstandings as young adults drove a wedge in between them. Now, years later, they have a chance to work together again and heal the rift between them.

But healing emotional wounds isn’t as easy as tracking down criminals. Jericho doesn’t know if he can watch Harley continue to recklessly throw herself into dangerous situations he can’t protect her from, and Harley doesn’t know if she can trust Jericho not to leave when his PTSD gets triggered. Their mutual need for vengeance is enough to keep them together for now, but neither of them are sure they want to stay together forever.

Faith Elements

Faith is very prevalent in Scent of Hope. Both Harley and Jericho’s struggles are deeply spiritual, even if they don’t realize it right away. Harley holds her life and choices closely, not relying anyone except herself. But the real freedom and security she craves isn’t in controlling every aspect of her life — it’s releasing everything to God in full surrender. Jericho has always been the protector of his family, so his confidence is shaken when he can’t always be around to defend the people he loves most. He has to be reminded that God is a far better and more powerful protector than he can ever be.

Family Friendly Elements

This is a low spice novel, so kisses and brief cuddles only. Harley and Jericho are hunting a drug dealer and murder, but the action is not very intense or graphic. It’s full of faith, a solid option for teens and adults.
