In this interview, Lynette talks with us about her latest release, book number two in her Lake City Heroes Series, titled Target Acquired.
FF: Target Acquired is the second book in your Lake City Heroes Series. How many books are in this series, and what is the connecting element for all of them?
There are four books in the series and a novella that will appear in an anthology with Lynn H. Blackburn and Natalie Walters. The connecting element is the fictional town of Lake City, North Carolina. Everyone there pretty much knows everyone else.
FF: Your new novel centers on a SWAT team. What type of research was required to accurately portray the roles and responsibilities of a SWAT team?
So. Much. Research. I have friends who have been on SWAT, and I reached out to one of them as well as two FBI agent buddies who gave me quite a bit of feedback.
FF: Kenzie King has just joined the elite ranks as a SWAT medic. What type of welcome does she receive when she joins the male-dominated team?
Calling it a welcome is stretching it. She is not welcomed at all. In spite of the times we live in and all the progress made to recognize women as equals, some places and occupations are still male dominated. SWAT is one of those. Granted, the mindset is changing in some places like Los Angeles and other big cities, but Lake City needed a lesson and a female role model who fought and won. Not just by landing an amazing position on SWAT but by proving herself and winning the respect of her team.
FF: Cole Garrison is the SWAT team leader. Although he is intrigued and attracted to Kenzie, he tries to steer clear of her. What makes him hesitant to get closer to her?
There are a couple of reasons. First and foremost, Cole is her supervisor. That’s a sticky situation in any career. And while there aren’t any “rules” against such a relationship, it can get even stickier if things go south. The second reason is that the guys on the team are convinced she can’t hack it. Cole knows if he gives her any special treatment, she’ll never prove she can.
FF: After Kenzie’s arrival, the SWAT team suddenly becomes a target for a killer. Can you provide some insight on how this team is being targeted?
Someone is watching them and he doesn’t like what he sees. He decides Kenzie needs to go, that she’s the main problem. As a result, there’s a lot of collateral damage.
FF: Why did you choose Lake City, North Carolina, as the location for Target Acquired?
I wanted a fictional place, but near an area I was familiar with.
FF: What do you hope readers will gain from reading Target Acquired?
I really hope readers fall in love with the characters and are entertained wholeheartedly from page 1. My goal is to give readers a story they can’t put down, are willing to lose sleep over, and rave about to their friends and coworkers.

Book Summary:
She’s finally exactly where she wants to be.
Unfortunately, she’s also in the crosshairs of a killer.
After years of training, tough-as-nails Kenzie King has earned her place as a tactical medic on a SWAT team. But not everyone on the all-male team accepts her. Rumor is, she got the position not because of what she could do but because of who she knew. Which means she has to work harder and longer than anyone else to prove herself.
Cole Garrison is a man with deep faith who is finally ready to settle down and build a family of his own—if he can find the right person, that is. Kenzie sure has set off his interest meter, but trouble seems to follow in her wake. Since she joined the team, someone has begun to ambush and pick off team members one by one.
It’s all hands on deck to discover the culprit and end the killing. Can Kenzie and Cole put aside their differences and work together as a team? Or will their budding attraction be snuffed out by a sniper’s bullet?
