Kathy Harris is an author by way of a “divine detour” into the Nashville entertainment business. After graduating with a Communications degree from Southern Illinois University, she moved to Tennessee to work in the Christian music industry. That position soon transitioned into what would become a long-tenured country music marketing career with The Oak Ridge Boys. An American Christian Fiction Writers Genesis finalist in 2007 and category winner in the RWA/Faith Hope & Love Touched by Love in 2011, Kathy was included in Family Fiction magazine’s list of ‘five new voices encouraging and challenging the modern woman.’

In this interview, Kathy talks with us about the third book in her Deadly Secrets Series, Deadly Conclusion.

FF: Tell us about the main characters in your book.
Keely Lambert is a 28-year-old dog trainer, who specializes in search and rescue K9s. When she and her young dog, Titan, are on a search at Nashville’s Beaman Park, Keely finds the lost boy—and his uncle, Beau Gardner, who is also searching for the child. On their way back to the staging area, Keely also finds the military dog tags of her father, who has been presumed dead since his disappearance over twenty years ago. The latter discovery drives the main plot of the story.

Beau Gardner is a 29-year-old agent with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. He and Keely were sweethearts in high school—until he messed things up. His return to Leipers Fork, Tennessee, and Keely’s life, adds both conflict and romance. Ultimately, he becomes her hero.

FF: Which character surprised you the most?
That would be Beau’s father. J.G. Gardner is a secondary character, but he is also the most complicated. J.G. is someone you’re not sure if you should love or hate.

FF: What do you want readers to take away after reading your book?
I hope they will close the book with a new understanding of forgiveness. I also hope they will be entertained and exhilarated by the action in the story.

FF: What are the biggest challenges for you as an author writing in your specific genre?
Christian Romantic Suspense has three threads, faith, romance, and suspense, all sharing the screen equally. As someone first published in women’s fiction, which is much less structured, romantic suspense was a new discipline!

FF: What authors or books have inspired you as an author?
When I was young, it would have been Nancy Drew books. Later on, I read a lot of Dee Henderson books. More recently, I’ve enjoyed a gamut of suspense authors, from Colleen Coble to Irene Hannon and now Patricia Bradley. I’m a big fan of Erin Healy’s writing. And I’m blessed to call one of the best suspense writers in the business, Ramona Richards, my friend and my editor for this series.

FF: How has your faith or world view impacted the way you tell stories?
Faith is central to what I write. And why I write.

Book Summary:
A Fast-Paced Suspense Book You Can’t Put Down

In the thrilling conclusion of the Deadly Secrets Series, dog trainer Keely Lambert breaks in Titan, a new shepherd, during a rescue mission to find little Conner Wells. Aided by childhood friend, Beau Gardner of the TBI and Conner’s uncle, Keely finds the boy deep inside Beaman Park.

But Conner is not all that Keely found. On the way back to the welcome center, she notices something sticking out of the dirt—the military dog tags of her father who disappeared more than two decades before.

The discovery sets Keely on a hunt to unearth her father’s killer, only to be thwarted by multiple setbacks—the murder of Beau’s father, the kidnapping of her mother, and her kennel being set on fire in the middle of the night. After Keely is kidnapped herself, Beau leads a manhunt to find her before the outcome reaches a deadly conclusion.
