Yet, life keeps throwing Michelle in his path and sparks of interest began to rise. Will old secrets tear them apart again or can they find the faith to let God’s grace restore what has been broken? In this interview, the author shares more about the series, the inspiration behind Grace Restored, and what she considers the essential qualities of a leading man and leading lady…
What can you tell us about the Freedom Lake series?
The Freedom Lake series takes the reader to a small town in Indiana. The series follows two sets of friends—a group of women and a group of men—as they seek God’s truth for their lives. Through each book we see a woman and a man paired off from the group of friends.
It’s a romance series, but it’s much more as the couples work out their feelings on faith and the life they’ve been dealt. Grace Restored features Guy Pierre and Michelle Thomas.
What was the inspiration behind Grace Restored?
When I wrote book one, Returning Home, I was surprised at how much Michelle intrigued me. She joked and presented a put-together facade, but the more I wrote, the more I realized how much hurt she was covering up. It made perfect sense to pair her with Guy, the widower and father of twin girls.
I knew from book one that I wanted their story to be about God’s grace. And that was about all I knew.
What do you consider the essential qualities of a leading lady and leading man?
The leading lady has to evoke empathy. I’m always intrigued by those who have layers of secrets and life experiences that round them out and connect more than one reader to her story. As for the leading man, I love a God-fearing man who will do all he can to ensure the leading lady knows how much he cares.
What do you want readers to take away after reading Grace Restored?
That God’s grace can cover all our sins. No sin’s weight is too much for Him to cover or wipe clean. I also hope that readers will begin to greet one another with grace. You never know what someone’s backstory is.
