‘Riches Beyond Measure’ Book Review
This simple novel by Mary Connealy has a bit of everything: outlaws, earthquakes, treasure hunts, scrapes with death, and the joys of love. Set in California during the era of wild cowboys, Riches Beyond Measure was the third and final installment of the Golden State Treasures Series and wrapped up the story of the MacKenzie’s cattle ranch.
Summary
The rowdy MacKenzie nephews have their eyes set on the Spanish treasure they are convinced is buried on their ranch. Cordell has his eyes set on a more valuable prize. Winning Annie’s heart when her brothers are determined to protect her won’t be easy, but Cord is determined. Annie shares similar feelings, which continue to grow through the action. Between earthquakes, outlaws, and treasure hunts, the book moves quickly.

The characters go to church, pray when in danger, and quote Scripture to encourage one another.
Main Themes
One main theme is centered around the idea that wealth easily corrupts people. Violence all too often follows greed, and people do terrible things in pursuit of money and worldly fame. At the end of the day, family is far more valuable than gold, however alluring the promised gleam of old Spanish coins might be.
Family Friendly Considerations
This book is very family friendly for younger readers looking for a first long chapter book. The romance and action are described in simplistic ways suitable for any age.
