‘Raging Waters’ Book Review
Raging Waters is Dana Mentink’s second Elements of Danger novel, although I thought it lacked the electric nature of her first installment.
Main Themes
In this romantic suspense novel, Mackenzie is on the hunt for the man who murdered her brother. Her drive for revenge is relentless, and she won’t allow anyone or anything to get in her way. Gideon didn’t want to find himself in her way, but one thing led to another, and now they are stuck together in a rapidly flooding town.
While the novel was clean and had all the right elements of enemies-to-lovers romance and run-for-your-life danger, there were also themes of the-end-justifies-the-means that I found less appealing. When Mackenzie’s investigation doesn’t go the way she plans, she gets herself arrest for assault. After a car accident when she is being transferred to a different prison, Gideon chooses to help her escape the police even when he has multiple opportunities to turn her back in.
The unavoidable themes of recklessly defying the law and a forced, unrealistic love interest had this novel falling flat for me.
Faith Elements
Raging Waters is a Christian novel, with characters wrestling in their faith and realizing how much they need to release the past and trust in God for strength and comfort when life seems unfair.
Family Friendly Considerations
While this is a very clean book, there are themes of breaking the law that made it hard to enjoy this novel. The romance is clean, with nothing more than a few hugs and kisses. Even though the main antagonist is a drug kingpin, the suspense is also clean, without excessive descriptions of illegal activities or violence.
