Into a Golden Era | Historical Dual-Timeline
Into a Golden Era is Gabrielle Meyer’s seventh book in her Timeless series and an absolutely masterclass in the dangers of trying to manipulate history instead of trusting God.
Main Themes
The plot was wonderfully intricate in Into a Golden Era, and nothing was predictable or guaranteed. Ally is only weeks away from her 25th birthday, when she will have to decide which timeline to stay in. Both have their appeals, challenges, and financial difficulties. Ally believes that if she can make sure at least one family is financially stable, she will be okay leaving them for the other path. But when her carefully laid plans start to fall apart and someone keeps changing history, she has no idea what to expect anymore.
God is mentioned briefly in this novel, and there are some beautiful Christian themes present. Ally realizes that she is making snap judgments about people and judging by outward appearances instead of judging correctly. She also finds herself trying to play the role of God and control every aspect in both of her lives. But she doesn’t know everything, which is a source of great discomfort until she realizes the only way to survive is to trust others without seeing the full picture.
There are also themes of refusing to compromise morals for the sake of short-term financial or emotional security. Being men and women of integrity is highly valued and plays out beautifully across the book.
Faith Elements
As stated above, God is sporadically mentioned, but biblical themes of marriage, integrity, protecting others, trusting God to work everything out in the end, and not letting wealth become a snare are constantly present throughout the novel. It’s a wonderful Christian novel without being overbearing or cringy.
Family Friendly Considerations
This is a great novel for teens and adults who are looking for a clean historical, time-travel novel. The romance is kissing only, and while other themes like drugs/alcohol, gangs, women of the night, and violence are present, they are not graphic or disturbing.
