What makes your protagonist an interesting character?

Melanie is multi-layered. There’s a lot going on under the surface that she’s shoved down, so she’s the least self-aware character I’ve created and that made her a challenge to write. But as with all my novels, Home is a story of growth and healing, and Melanie finally allows herself to be vulnerable enough that healing can take place. She’s a quirky character with a good sense of humor, and I love her for that.

Can you tell us about your writing process?

I’ll just say this: it isn’t pretty! With the exception of the way Melanie creates characters, her writing process is exactly my own. A typical day in Melanie’s life emulates a typical day in my life, right down to her wardrobe choices!
