What are you currently reading?

Idaho by Emily Ruskovich. Today during three-hours of oral surgery, I brought the novel and just wanted more breaks to resume reading it!

Where will your writing take you next?

1. Out of the Water – a novel about a young woman who searches for her biological mother but instead finds more questions than answers and the realization that the truth does not always set you free. Her quest uncovers family secrets and mysteries bigger than her own adoption.

2. Mama’s Liebling – a memoir about my grandparents’ escape from Russia in December of 1929. With the current refugee situation, the Crimean Peninsula, and the reunification of family remnants, this story is timely. For my grandparents and their newborn to escape, they had to leave behind their three-year-old son Kolya. Of the over 13,000 Germans trying to flee Moscow that winter, about 5,000 made it out of the country. Only four made it to America and that was my family. A book so personal and yet collective, moving and compelling demands to be completed. I began the research before I was 18 and won’t give up until it’s published!

How would you describe who would enjoy reading Stars in the Grass?

Women tend to be the primary book club members and I think this is a perfect book club choice. While teaching at the middle school, I saw a student reading my book, but I think that those born in 30’s through the 70’s might especially appreciate the nostalgic look back. FF

Ann and her husband, Will, raise two daughters and a flock of sheep on their Virginia farm where fireflies light up the sky on warm summer nights. Music, theater, teaching, and an MA in Film and Television, propel Ann’s creative storytelling. Ann originated the series and wrote three of AMG’s Preparing My Heart books, and writes “Ann’s Lovin’ Ewe” for The Country Register, contributes to Mentoring Moments, and has written for Proverbs 31. She can’t remember a time when she wasn’t writing stories, putting on plays, or belting songs. When she’s not writing, she’s waving her arms directing musicals, teaching middle schoolers, or watching UVA Basketball.
