Chase the Light | Contemporary Romance with a Love Triangle

Book review contributed by guest reader Elizabeth M.

Chase the Light is about a young female park ranger who stumbles across a hidden treasure. Trying to keep it a secret, it quickly blows out of proportion to where she, along with her rag-tag group of helpers, has to find it before the rest of the world tries to steal it.

Main Themes

Scout, aka Magnolia Pearl, is a park ranger, who aspires to live with her life among the national parks and giving guides to people, stumbles upon a hidden treasure when her forgetful aide strands her upon a lighthouse island. She finds a bunch of hidden notes and brings them back to her superior. In the process, a desperate reporter and a Native American who has hidden motives joins the group, as well as a couple teenagers who are quite silly and are looking for love.

With too many people in the group, Scout narrows down her search party to the reporter and the Native American, both of whom she feels romantically for. Following betrayals, broken trust, blooming love and more, Scout tries to find the hidden treasure without her heart breaking or getting hurt in the process.

Main themes include romance, mystery, national geographics, and treasure hunting.

Faith Elements

This book has many elements of faith involved. It includes attending church, Bible verses, and clean love. It is a staple of the main characters’ lives to be involved at church and keep their lives clean. It is definitely a clean fiction book.

Family Friendly Considerations

I would say for the most part it is clean for the whole family. There is a love triangle, stealing, refusing to tell the whole truth, and some angry fight scenes at the end of the book between parental figures with lies and truth coming out. I would say for families who have gone through divorce or splitting of parents, it might be harder on young kids, but really not too bad. It’s a great book for teens and adults.
