Autumn at the Cat Cafe by Kathleen Fuller is a fun, small-town, opposites-attract, cat-themed autumn romance that would make a wonderful Hallmark film.
Main Themes
Leo lives in Los Angeles, far away from any of his power-obsessed family, when he receives an unexpected inheritance: a cluttered bookshop in the middle of a tiny town in Ohio. He tries to sell it as quickly as possible, but his uncle Earl has set some unique stipulations he has to complete first. Leo reluctantly agrees to stay until he can complete the tasks, but life quickly gets complicated.
Via was friends with Earl, her reclusive neighbor and fellow small business owner, and was hoping Earl would give her the bookstore. When she discovers he didn’t have time to amend his will before his untimely death, she knows she has to get Leo to see the charm of her tiny town before he makes a terrible mistake and sells the bookstore to the wrong person.
But terrible mistakes are coming, no matter how hard Leo and Via try to ignore the sparks flying between them and the trust issues that pop up at the worst time.
There are main themes of the importance of working through negative family patterns and being honest even when it’s hard, as well as the danger of keeping secrets and lying.
Favorite Scenes
One of my favorite parts of the book is when Sir Meow won Naughty Cat of the Week for two weeks in a row. The sweet relationship between Via and her family was also a highlight.
Faith Elements
The characters mention going to church, but other than that, faith is not a large part of the novel.
Family Friendly Considerations
The romance is very clean, with a few kisses only. Some of the characters briefly joke about more suggestive things, but it’s still very clean and wholesome. It’s a great romance option for teens and adults!
