A Mismatch Made in London by Melanie Dickerson is a fun regency romance starring a country gentleman’s daughter and a wealthy brother-sister duo.
Main Themes
Amelia is excited to be invited to London for the season, but she feels guilty about leaving her younger siblings behind. The daughter of a lowly gentleman, however, her younger siblings are relying on her making an advantageous match so they have a better chance of getting good trades and marrying well. But the idea of shopping for or trying to catch a husband is repulsive to Amelia. Her refusal to be a shameless flirt, although with her rough country manners, causes her to despair of ever finding a husband.
When she becomes friends with Juliet, the younger sister of the most sought-after bachelor of the season, men start paying more attention to her. But heartbreak quickly follows when her dowry isn’t large enough, and soon Amelia has to pour all of her time and energy into helping Juliet avoid a terrible scandal.
Not all of the themes felt fully developed, although there were some wonderful themes of finding worth and purpose apart from family, the importance of being loyal to friends, and avoiding judging people on first appearances.
Favorite Scenes
I can’t share my absolute favorite scene because it’s a terrible spoiler, haha. You’ll just have to read the book for yourself! But another funny scene was when Amelia and Juliet are feeding swans and get attacked by a goose.
Faith Elements
Faith plays a subtle role in this book, with characters working to emulate biblical virtues such as integrity, forgiveness, courage, and loyalty.
Family Friendly Considerations
This is a very clean, kisses-only novel. Juliet finds herself in the middle of a scandal, adding to the level of drama that is expected from a good regency romance.
